Robert Thurman

Robert Thurman is a noted
writer and academic on
Tibetan Buddhism. A close
friend of Tenzin Gyatso,
the Dalai Lama, Robert spent
many years in India during
his youth and was the first
American to be ordained
as a monk in the Tibetan
Buddhist tradition. He is
the cofounder and president
of the Tibet House, New York
and has written several
influential books on Buddhism
and translations of ancient
Buddhist texts. Time magazine
named him among the 25 most
influential Americans in 1997.
